Dancing on the abyss.
With DonGiovanni2025 we bring Mozart's masterpiece to two of Düsseldorf's most exciting locations: the Central Library (KAP1) and the legendary Ratinger Hof.
Our free version of Mozart and Da Ponte's Don Giovanni deliberately breaks with classical operatic traditions.
Singers, actors, choir and piano merge into an intense live experience in which the audience is not intended as mere observers, but rather involved in dynamic participation – mobile in space, in close proximity to the action and free from conventional spatial boundaries.
At Düsseldorf Central Library (KAP1), opera becomes part of everyday urban life. A musical drama unfolds between shelves and reading rooms, bringing the classical material right into the heart of the city.
Don Giovanni Dancefloor Edition (Ratinger Hof): In this legendary refuge of Düsseldorf's subculture, Don Giovanni undergoes an electrifying metamorphosis. Music, dance, and performance elements converge to create an inviting, sensually dense, and unorthodox operatic experience.
Two venues, two atmospheres, two perspectives on a great work. We invite you to experience both versions.
The myth lives on – more relevant than ever.
Don Giovanni remains a frighteningly relevant figure. His boundless desire for seduction and his evasion of responsibility make him a symbol of unbridled power. Mozart's opera tells of failure at one's own limits and invites us to recognize our own dark side.
The artistic team:
Choir:*
Ayomide Adebayo, Henri Charlow, Nadine Jaber, Carolina Meyer, Robert Meyer, Pavlo Niemets, Aalijah Özil, Djamilja Reichardt, Thekla Seidemann, Hafiz Solaymani.
* In this production, our choir embodies the conviction that opera is for everyone. We deliberately did not select any trained singers or actors for the choir. Instead, we invited young people between the ages of 14 and 18 from Düsseldorf and the surrounding area who had no previous singing experience.

Important information about the process and accessibility:
Audience movement
At both venues, audience movement is a central component of the production. The audience is guided through the respective spaces—the opera experience is deliberately designed as an immersive format.
